BIOGRAPHY

Phantom Voices are an exciting and dynamic six piece band producing their own brand of folk-rock influenced in equal parts by traditional English and American folk music, Country and Rock and Roll. Featuring rich harmonies and outstanding musicianship, Phantom Voices have gained a reputation as an outstanding live act, bringing their raucous and energetic stage performances to a variety of venues and festivals across the UK and Europe.

The band has had a fantastic couple of years, releasing their eponymous debut album and the expanding the band to include virtuoso fiddle player Richard Curran (Steve Tilston, Bert Jansch, Albert Lee) and bassist Jim Shea.  Phantom Voices have received praise and support from across the UK music scene and had the opportunity to record and perform with the now sadly departed Dave Swarbrick (Fairport Convention), featuring on his ‘Passing the Baton’ release showcasing the best in new folk-influenced music.

2017 saw the band receive stellar reviews for their live performances including mainstage spots at Costa Del Folk in Portugal and Ireby Festival among many others. The band have spent the early part of 2018 in the studio  - the new album 'Peace by Peace' will be released on the 14th of April.

PRESS AND REVIEWS

"The addition of Richard Curran to the Phantom Voices line-up, added a whole new perspective to what was already a great sound. Richard's fiddle playing faultlessly enhanced perfection...  Sometimes in life you have the luck to be at the start of something special, last night, we were."

Live Review - Clansfolk

From The fact that they’ve played bars, clubs and hostelries galore comes as no shock, they’re well versed in stomp along, toe tapping rousing numbers which invite a rowdy, noisy and fun response. Phantom Voices are the sort of band you cannot ignore once they achieve full steam.

Spiral Earth

Starting to create waves in the North West are Blackpool based five piece Phantom Voices and judging by their five track EP "Witches" it shouldn't be long before ripples are felt elsewhere. A murder, hanging, alcohol abuse all get a treatment that reminds me of the likes of The Men they Couldn't Hang, no bad thing and a reminder that the dark side of folk is far from dreary. There's energy aplenty with lots of good vocal interplay and exchanges. A good EP leaves you wanting more and this folk/americana blend definitely does that.

Neil King, Fatea

Trick or Treat? I've seen this band live several times in the past year or so, and was quite excited to hear about an EP being released of their own material. They are superb musicians that have built quite a following on both the local scene and further afield, so was expecting some quality songs from their debut EP, and it doesn't disappoint. 5 quality songs that would be make a fantastic A-side to a vinyl LP. No filler, all killer. Alright is a work of genius, shades of KT Tunstall in her finest hour but with more guts, and Bessie Jones is another  Rockabilly-Blues-Country classic that sounds as good recorded as it does live at a gig.
